Mas Thélème, in English

A few information about us are now availabe in English. I’ll do my best to give you soon other information.

Our vines

Our vineyard is in the small village of Lauret, at the foot of the Pic Saint Loup, north of Montpellier. Bathed in sun, sheltered by the surrounding hills, our vines grow at 200 metres. Le Mas Thélème is named after François Rabelais’ utopian abbey. It came about after a particularly good-humoured moment, accompanied by a bottle ... of wine ; 2003 saw the first harvest here.

Our wines

We make mainly red wines, but we plan to plant just over a hectare of white grape varieties. Our seven hectares are farmed with a focus on manual intervention and respect for nature, so we harvest by hand when optimum ripeness is reached. From our Syrah, Grenache and Cinsault grapes we create three « star » cuvées :

Carpe Diem, Exultet and Grandgousier

These wines are made within the AOC Pic Saint Loup appellation ; elegant and rounded, they have intense aromas and soft, silky tannins. The typicity of Pic Saint Loup wines can be attributed to the homogenous geology, a continental climate with marked variations in temperature, and a varied Mediterranean environment.

Nomen Omen joined our range in 2007. It is a Vin de Pays bursting with flavour, made from old Carignan and Cabernet Sauvignon vines.

From time to time, we extend our range by making unusual, original cuvées such as PrémiCCCes, Mémoire de Jean and Magie d’Automne, which highlight often-overlooked grape varieties. Right from our very first vintage, our wines have been noticed ; they figure regularly in wine guides and the trade press.
